I tend to read a lot of military-adventure
fiction (Tom Clancy, Richard Marcinko, Barrett Tillman), and in
doing so picked up the style of using acronyms in my own writing. And
while this style allows expression of ideas, things, or situations
quickly and with a certain degree of literary creativity, it can also be
confusing to the uninitiated. For those of you who need to know
precisely what I'm getting at (WTF did he say???), here is a list
of the most common ones I use.
Again, some contain colorful language so if you find such style
offensive this is probably not a page you want to read.
On reflection, I suppose that's why I started to use acronyms in the
first place—It gave me a form of expression that matches my real-world
nature, while hiding the offensive details of my phraseology from those
who perhaps take exception to such expression. I'm a mechanic. I hurt
myself more times in a single day, than some people do in a year. And
while I accept this natural extension of my job, that doesn't mean I
don't vent my frustration when it happens. There's that existential part
of me peeking through again.
